In this blog post, I am going to share with you the 5 different types
of water heaters: their advantages and disadvantages. I hope after reading this
post, you will have a better understanding of which one is best for you and
your home.
Condensing Water Heater
This type of water heater consumes unused gas fumes from the house to
heat water. If your house uses natural gas as an energy source, this type of
heater is for you.
Advantages:
- energy efficient
Disadvantages:
- requires a larger tank
- not suitable for homes not running on natural gas
Conventional Storage Tank Water Heater
This type of water heater is the one we are most familiar with. This
type is traditional and has been in the industry for the longest time. It has a
tank that holds water to be heated. How much hot water you can use in one
sitting depends on the capacity of your tank.
Advantages:
- most affordable style
- easy to install
Disadvantages:
- hot water depends on tank capacity
- takes time to refill and reheat water
Tankless Water Heater
This type of water heater features high-end technology. It offers
endless hot water, not like the conventional storage-tank water heater. From
the name, this type of water heater has no tank. It uses super-heated coils
that fill water and heat in just a second every time you need it. This type of
water heater is on-demand.
Plumber in Bloomfield Hills, MI suggests using tankless water heater
for less hassle and unlimited hot water supply.
Advantages:
- energy-efficient water heater since it only heats when needed
- supplies unlimited hot water
Disadvantages:
- the high initial cost for installment
- requires larger gas lines
- requires more power capacity
Heat Pump Water Heater also known as Hybrid Water Heater
This water heater does not use electricity to generate heat directly.
It uses heat in the ground and from the air to heat water. To move heat from
the air or ground into the water is the only time that it requires electricity.
Advantages:
- energy efficient
- cost-efficient in the long run
Disadvantages:
- not suitable for cold spaces
- not suitable for cold climates
- expensive type of water heater
Solar Powered Water Heater
This water heater uses energy from the sun to function. For homes with
solar panels, this is a great addition. If you are planning to install a solar
panel, this might be the one for you. This water heater relies on roof-mounted
solar panels.
Advantages:
- energy efficient
- environmentally friendly
- saves money on electricity bill
Disadvantages:
- expensive installation
- years to see a return on investment
- not favorable on no sun conditions
