A bathroom basin that is
not draining is a sign of a clog somewhere. Most clogs are relatively easy to
fix. There are simple techniques that can clear up your pipes again. Nothing
can be as common as a clogged drain, so anyone can expect a method that will
clear the clog in no time. The matter of timing is also essential when using
drain cleaners at home. When this issue is not severe, you can surely do the
job without risking your sink and other fixtures.
Verifying the Issue
Check any clog and how
bad they have accumulated in the sink or drain. Close the waste and turn on the
faucet, allowing it to fill about a quarter of the basin with water. Let go of
the debris and observe the flow of water as it drains. If it takes a little
longer than usual, the clog is minimal, but if it did not almost drain, the
clog needs to be fixed immediately by drain

Use a Boiling Water
Boiling a kettle of water
is useful for most clogs, but if you have a pipe made of PVC or the basin is
made of ceramic, these methods will potentially damage these materials, so it
is not recommended clearing the clog this way. If the pipe is of metal, then this
will allow you to try it. Most of the time, this trick is useful with
dishwashing liquid: Mix two spoonfuls of it with water, stir it well, and pour
the solution directly into the sink or drain. Let it sit a few minutes and wash
it off with boiling water to clear the clog. Repeat the process as needed.
Use a Plunger
Secure for a
cup plunger you can find in any hardware store if you do not already have it.
Before using the plunger, you should place a piece of duct tape over the
overflow hole. It can create a significant vacuum. Put some water in the basin
and place the plunger over the plughole. Use a quick plunge, and after a while,
you should hear a moaning sound when the blockage starts to clear. Please keep
it for a short time before removing the duct tape. Fill the basin again with
water and drain again. As the water flows properly, you fix the problem. But if
there's no progress, it could mean to call an expert.
Use a Sink Auger
Turn on the crank handle and extend more cable until the clog feels as if it has been removed. Pull the cord and use the hot water tap to drain. This method will usually work if the clog is located in the p-trap of the basin. A hanger can be an alternative and straighten it out, bending it into a little hook at one end. It just works wonders on smaller clogs.
Beyond the Trap
Before you start examining the trap: Take a bucket, and place it under the trap. Remove the trap cover and remove it before extending the auger to the exposed drain pipe. When you feel like it has been removed, bolt all the backup and let some water into the basin. You should now be good to go. If nothing happens yet after applying all methods, then call a plumber.
